Sue Wharton

I have worked as a full-time artist since 2014 and work from my studio in Chesterfield. I specialise in painting with melted pigmented beeswax, a technique called encaustic painting. Most of my smaller works, which are mainly abstract landscapes or flowers, are produced using the painting iron and heated stylus whereas my larger works of animals, including pet portraits, are painted using a paint brush and heat gun.  My work has been displayed in several exhibitions and several of my paintings have received awards. Encaustic painting is an ancient technique first used by the Ancient Egyptians and has a unique and enduring quality. Painting with wax and an iron offers a novel and fun workshop for budding artists looking for something a little different.
