Natural History Workshop - Botanical in Coloured Pencil/Graphite/Ink

Choose from feathers, shells, seaweed, fossils, pebbles, gem stones, butterflies, bees and bugs in this fascinating workshop.  Enjoy working in either graphite pencil, coloured pencil or pen and ink with full tuition throughout.  
Residential and non-residential participants welcome.

What to bring
Study Material:
The tutor will bring a selection of feathers, shells, Insects and butterflies for you to draw or paint but if you have some specimens of your own that you would like to bring to add to the selection then please do.
 
Equipment:
Bring whatever you normally use for watercolour painting, graphite or coloured pencil work.  It is helpful for this to include the following:
 

            Coloured pencils

  • Graphite pencil – preferably an F or 2H
  • Smooth cartridge paper for practice work
  • Good quality hot-pressed smooth watercolour paper, cartridge paper, or Bristol Board
  • Putty or kneadable rubber

·       Good pencil sharpener – essential!

  • Good quality non-soluble coloured pencils   (My personal preferences are:

Faber-Castelle Polychromos, Derwent Artist, Caran-D’Ache Pablo, Karisma, Prismacolour)

  • Cloth or piece of paper to rest your hand on to avoid marking your work
  • Drawing board or piece of MDF slightly larger than your paper
  • Magnifying glass
  • Ruler or dividers

            Graphite Pencil                       

  • Smooth cartridge paper for practice purposes
  • Good quality heavyweight cartridge paper or hot pressed smooth watercolour paper for final piece.
  • Plastic rubber
  • Putty or kneadable rubber
  • Sharp craft knife
  • Cloth or piece of paper to rest your hand on to avoid marking your work
  • Pencils:HB, 2H, 4H, 2B, 4B, F, H, B
  • Drawing board or piece of MDF slightly larger than your paper
  • Magnifying glass
  • Ruler or dividers

 

            Or
 

            Watercolour

  • Graphite pencil – preferably an F or 2H
  • Smooth cartridge paper for practice work
  • Good quality hot-pressed smooth watercolour paper
  • Putty or kneadable rubber

·       Pencil sharpener or craft knife

  • Watercolour paints – bring what you have, making sure you have the primary colours of red, yellow and blue.
  • Small size watercolour brushes such as size 0 and size 4
  • Mixing palette or plain white plate
  • Cloth or piece of paper to rest your hand on to avoid marking your work
  • Drawing board or piece of MDF slightly larger than your paper
  • Magnifying glass
  • Ruler or dividers

 
!!!! You will be working in fine detail so don’t forget your spectacles if you need them !!!!
